The Edgewood ISD Class of 2024 is proof dedication and determination pay off. Graduates from John F Kennedy High School, Memorial High School and the Edgewood Fine Arts Academy earned nearly $11,000,000 in college scholarships and 382 Industry-Based Certifications.
The amount of scholarship monies earned reflects the arduous work students at all three EISD high schools put into their academic efforts. Students at Memorial High School earned $3,919,586, Kennedy High School students earned $5,177,380 and the graduates of Edgewood Fine Arts Academy earned $1,605,150. In all, students earned $10,702,116 in scholarships for the next step in their academic career.
Oreoluwa Adeboye-Olurebi from Memorial High School is the highest scholarship earner in the Class of 2024 with $572,400. She will be attending the University of North Texas. Anjelika Ambriz from John F Kennedy High School earned more than $398,000 in scholarships and will attend the University of Texas at San Antonio. Jesse Larralde graduated from Edgewood Fine Arts Academy. He earned $261,000 in scholarships, which he will use to attend St. Mary’s University. During the June 2024 EISD Board of Trustees meeting, Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernandez commended the students, but says EISD still has a way to go.
“This by no means, means we’ve arrived. That number needs to get higher,” said Dr. Hernandez. “I do not want to lose sight of the fact that the students worked really hard. I want to thank our high school principals and counselors for all their work.”
Class of 2024graduates also earned Industry-Based Certifications which allow them to step right into the workforce. These students earned IBCs in Entrepreneurship & Small Business, Automotive Service Excellence, SolidWorks, Phlebotomy Technician, ServSafe Manager, American Welding Society, Microsoft Office Specialist- Word Expert, Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Animate, Cosmetology, Adobe After Effects, Non-Commissioned Security Officer Level 2, Principals of Small Engine Technology, Patient Care Technician, Food Protection Manager and Educational Aide 1.
“These are all great starts for our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Hernandez. “Besides getting their high school diploma, also getting their industry certification.”
During the June 2024 EISD Board of Trustees Meeting, EISD Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernandez commended these students and recognized the 19 students who also graduated with an associate’s degree, as part of the Early College High School programs at John F Kennedy and Memorial High Schools.
